Guatemalan Strictly Hard Bean (SHB) coffee is grown at an altitude of approximately 1,350 meters, benefiting from a unique microclimate. This special geographic location blends the hot, dry air from the Tehuantepec Plains with the cool breeze of the Cuchumatanes mountains, creating a protective “bubble” for coffee cultivation. This microclimate shields coffee flowers and cherries from frost, allowing coffee plants to mature slowly in one of the highest growing regions in the world.
Coffee cherries that ripen at high altitudes develop denser beans and distinct flavor characteristics based on their specific location. Any coffee grown above 1,350 meters earns the SHB (Strictly Hard Bean) designation, signifying its unique qualities.
